Four schools from both the Big 12 and Big East basketball conferences pre-scheduled games for the 2019-20 season. The two conferences have decided to take things a step further.
The Big 12 and Big East are creating an entire conference vs. conference series similar to the SEC-Big 12 challenge and ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Per the report, the two conferences have signed an agreement to have the series run through the 2022-23 season.
The 2019-20 season already had several huge match-ups between the two conferences, highlighted by Kansas-Villanova, Kansas State-Marquette, Oklahoma-Creighton, and Texas-Providence.
Under the new format, we now have ten games between the two basketball power conference to look forward to next year, including Iowa State-Seton Hall, Baylor-Butler, and Oklahoma State-Georgetown, among a few others.
Here is the full list of Big 12 vs. Big East games slated for the 2019-20 season:
- Butler @ Baylor
- Georgetown @ Oklahoma State
- Kansas @ Villanova
- Marquette @ Kansas State
- Oklahoma @ Creighton
- Seton Hall @ Iowa State
- Texas @ Providence
- Texas Tech @ DePaul
- West Virginia @ St John’s
- Xavier @ TCU
The two conferences combined to receive 10 bids to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, and another 13 bids the year before.
Perhaps the biggest match-up on the list, Kansas-Villanova will pit two teams that have combined to win six NCAA titles, including three of the last ten. The two teams played in December earlier this year with Kansas securing a 74-71 victory.
Even though we’re still in the heat of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, but the 2019-20 season is already giving us plenty to look forward to.
