There will be a new No. 1 team in the country next week.
No. 1 Villanova is undefeated no more.
Butler shot 60 percent from the field and 68 percent from beyond the arc, making 15-of-22 threes and holding on to stun the top-ranked Wildcats 101-93 before a rocking home crowd. The Bulldogs led by as many as 22 (84-62) in the second half before withstanding a furious Villanova rally.
It is Butler’s third-straight win over Villanova. Here’s a look at the post-game court storm.
Kelan Martin (24 points), Paul Jorgensen (23 points) and Kamar Baldwin (19 points) led the way for the Bulldogs.
No. 2 Michigan State could slide into the top spot in Monday’s AP poll, but if No. 3 Arizona State beats No. 17 Arizona tonight, the Sun Devils could make the jump to No. 1. ASU is currently the last undefeated team in the nation.
