Butler has reportedly found its new head basketball coach.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Milwaukee head coach LaVall Jordan is set to become the new head coach at Butler. Jordan will replace Chris Holtmann, who left to become head coach at Ohio State.
The 38-year-old Jordan only has one year of head coaching experience. He went 11-24 leading Milwaukee in 2016-17.
However, he has a few things going for him. First off, he’s a Butler alum. Jordan played for the Bulldogs from 1997-2001, helping the program reach three NCAA Tournaments. While at Butler, Jordan was coached by the school’s current athletic director Barry Collier. Ironically, he also played one season under Thad Matta, who Holtmann replaced at OSU.
Secondly, Jordan has extensive assistant coaching experience at Butler, Iowa and Michigan. He has a lot of ties in the Midwest, which should help with recruiting the area.
