The ESPN broadcaster, recently returned to game coverage, offered his thoughts on the program’s coaching search.
Dick Vitale has never shied away from providing his thoughts on the world of college basketball through Twitter.
The renowned college basketball broadcaster has spent a great deal of time around the program and has been on the call for multiple iconic Indiana matchups in Assembly Hall. He recently returned to calling games for ESPN after health issues kept him away from broadcasting.
With the Hoosiers’ head coaching job set to open this offseason, Vitale took to Twitter to provide his perspective on the upcoming search:
If Tony Bennett decides to want to coach again the @IndianaMBB should do whatever it takes to bring him to Bloomington . Absolutely the best available as he is a sure future Hall of Famer .

That’s right, recently retired Virginia head coach Tony Bennett.
It’s far from the first time that Bennett has been floated for the Indiana job and it’s never seemed less likely. As explained above, Bennett retired from coaching prior to the onset of this season.
On top of that, part of the reason he did so was the general “the way the game is going” that we’ve seen so many coaches cite. Indiana’s next head coach cannot have that kind of mindset and it was a point of emphasis in the football coaching search that ended with Indiana hiring Curt Cignetti.
