Despite some rumors about the Indiana Hoosiers making a big splash this offseason, it was reported this Wednesday night that head coach Mike Woodson will return for the 2024-25 season.
“Sources: Indiana’s Mike Woodson will return as head coach next season,” college basketball insider Jon Rothstein said.
Woodson has been coaching Indiana since 2021, leading the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Last year, he took the Hoosiers to the Round of 32.
This year hasn’t been great for Indiana to say the least. Woodson’s squad is 16-13 heading into final two regular-season games.
For the most part, basketball fans aren’t surprised by Indiana’s decision to keep Woodson. They never really bought the chatter about Bruce Pearl taking over for the Hoosiers.
“Big blow to that one dude who pretty much insisted it was a done deal of Bruce Pearl to Indiana,” a fan wrote.
Another fan sarcastically said, “Wait so Bruce Pearl ain’t leaving for Indiana???”
“Anyone who thought differently doesn’t know ball,” a third fan commented.
“Confirming what we all knew,” a social media user said.
Indiana fans obviously want the program to return to its glory days. Who could blame them?
On the other hand, Woodson is well above .500 since landing the Indiana job. The athletic department can’t just show him the door without having a great replacement waiting in the wings.
