How have Indiana’s current commitments responded? Could others join in the Spring with a new coach?
It’s been official for over a week now: Indiana men’s basketball head coach Mike Woodson will depart the program at the end of the 2024-25 season.
That’s, obviously, a drastic change that impacts every level of the program with one of the most important aspects being recruiting. As of right now, Indiana has two commitments in the upcoming class of 2025: Trent Sisley, a versatile in-state forward currently playing at Montverde Academy in Florida and Harun Zrno, a sharpshooting guard out of Bosnia.
Sisley committed to the program this past offseason after a prolonged recruitment involving programs such as Purdue, Notre Dame and Michigan State. Indiana ultimately won his pledge in the end.
Zrno was a more interesting add. An international talent out of Europe, Zrno committed to the program just a handful of weeks ago when Woodson’s job status was murky at best as his seat began to heat up. Either way, he provides shooting for a program in desperate need of it.
As of now, Sisley remains signed with the Hoosiers. He’s waiting to see who the program ultimately ends up hiring before making any decisions on that matter, per reporting from the Indianapolis Star.
That makes sense for a few reasons. For one, Sisley is an in-state kid who was familiar with the situation Woodson was in and has seen multiple coaches lead the program during his lifetime. He’s also a highly versatile player who could thrive and play in different kinds of systems. Any coach would find a way to get Sisley on the floor and have him impact the game positively.
Like his recruitment, the case with Zrno is more curious. Zrno, unlike Sisley, has yet to sign with the program and is unable to do so until the next signing window in April. He too is likely waiting on a decision from the program at head coach to make any changes to his commitment.
Zrno’s most important aspect as a player is his shooting ability and every coach needs shooting. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a new staff look to keep him on board.
