Game Notes
Indiana (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) suffered its most shocking loss in recent history Thursday when it fell to Harvard in overtime.
The Hoosiers were down, 21-7, after ten minutes thanks to a mistake-laden first quarter in which they committed 11 turnovers.
Indiana’s offense stabilized enough to force overtime after that but the Hoosiers continued to turn the ball over and could not capitalize on multiple chances to put the Crimson away.
The Hoosiers finished the game with 27 turnovers and struggled to solve Harvard’s full-court press. Post play and ballhandling are not where Indiana needs them to be.
Butler (2-0, 0-0 Big East) finds itself undefeated after picking up wins over Chicago State and Milwaukee last week.
Former IUPUI head coach Austin Parkinson is in his third season at Butler and led the Bulldogs to a WNIT victory last season.
Butler likes to shoot the 3 and is led offensively by graduate guard Caroline Strande. Strande is just 2-10 from deep on the season but went 46-for-103 (.447) during her second-team All-BIG EAST campaign in 2023-24.
Strande shares the perimeter with sophomore guard Riley Makalusky, the older sister of 2025 Indiana commit Maya. Maya projects as a small forward and is the class’s top-ranked in-state recruit.
A week ago, Indiana fans saw this game as a tuneup before Stanford visits Assembly Hall on Sunday. After the Harvard game, however, few are overlooking the Bulldogs.
The Hoosiers haven’t lost consecutive games since February of 2022. That should remain the case come tomorrow morning but they’ll need to take care of the ball and defend better first.. Grace Berger and Mackenzie Holmes ain’t walking through that door.
