Welcome back to Crimson Quarry’s 2024-25 Indiana women’s basketball player preview series. Today, we’re previewing freshman forward Faith Wiseman.
The Story So Far
Wiseman, a 6-foot-4 forward out of Martinsville, Ind., grew up cheering for Indiana and attending games at Assembly Hall. She committed to Indiana head coach Teri Moren nearly two years ago and was the state’s No. 2 2024 recruit.
Wiseman played her high school ball at Indian Creek where she led the Braves to four straight sectional titles. She finished her ICHS career with 1,456 points and 1,072 rebounds and averaged 18.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game as a senior.
Offense
Wiseman’s high school legacy was built in the paint but she can do more than just play with her back to the basket.
Wiseman has very good handles and succeeds when facing up defenders in the high post. She can score with both hands and loves to roll after driving along the baseline. Her floater is quite pretty and she’ll hit anything 6-12 feet from the basket.
All of that, of course, is when she’s looking to score. Wiseman’s great at reading help defenders and finding teammates in the lane. Her passes have a certain zip to them— they look like college assists.
Wiseman will shoot a 3 if it’s there but prefers the pick-n-roll when on the outside. She’s athletic enough to play the three, four, or five, and excelled at small forward with Indiana Elite in AAU.
Defense
Wiseman is the tallest player on Indiana’s roster. Her wingspan makes her a great help defender/rim protector and she’s solid on the boards.
Wiseman’s best defensive trait is her motor. She was not afraid to play physically in high school and will need to keep that mindset as she adjusts to the size of college competition.
Big Ten teams, especially the four newcomers from out West, are big. There will be bumps and bruises.
Outlook
Junior forward Lilly Meister will be Indiana’s starting center with Tennessee transfer Karoline Striplin backing her up. The depth chart after that is murky.
Wiseman’s physical traits and track record of dominance give us hope that she’ll contribute as a freshman. Indiana seldom plays with multiple posts on the floor but a Wiseman/Meister frontcourt could be really fun. Both are comfortable on the perimeter and it would be exciting to see what Teri cooks up with such versatility.
