Cignetti likes what he sees from Ohio transfer Kurtis Rourke, but hasn’t made a habit of naming a starting quarterback.
Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti is unlikely to name a starting quarterback ahead of the 2024 season, saying he’s “never really seen the value” of doing so in the past.
Curt Cignetti on the Indiana quarterbacks:
“I’ve never seen the value of really naming a starter.”
Cignetti said he feels really good about Kurtis Rourke and that Tayven Jackson has done some good things but needs to continue to improve. #iufb

The Hoosiers’ quarterbacks room was overhauled this past offseason upon the hiring of Cignetti. Last year’s starter, Brendan Sorsby, entered the transfer portal after former head coach Tom Allen was fired and committed to Cincinnati from there.
Indiana added Ohio transfer Kurtis Rourke and two freshmen, Tyler Cherry out of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana, and Alberto Mendoza, a former James Madison commit, out of Columbus High School in Miami, Florida.
The room will have the benefit of continuity from a staff standpoint. Cignetti brought his quarterbacks coach at JMU, Tino Sunseri, with him to keep coaching the position with Indiana, adding on a co-offensive coordinator title.
He went on to elaborate that he feels good about Rourke and that while Tayven Jackson has done some good things, he needs to continue improving.
More Cignetti on Rourke: “I thought he had a really good spring, a great summer. I sleep better at night knowing I’ve got a guy like that that’s played that many games.” #iufb
