If the poll were larger, Indiana would effectively be 27th in the country.
Indiana football was listed in the “receiving votes” category of the week 5 college football AP Poll, with 63 points.
That effectively puts them at 27th in the poll, behind Washington State with 67 points and No. 15 Boise State with 69. Indiana has received top-25 votes for the previous two weeks as well.
Should Indiana emerge victorious over visiting Maryland on Saturday, there’s a path to a top-25 ranking for the Hoosiers. The schedule up to this point hasn’t necessarily jumped out to national voters, but Indiana is making enough of an impression to be there.
It’s also worth noting that the poll, while a fun part of college sports, is a bit flawed. Not every college football writer can watch every game. Most are at the games of the teams they are covering, which is an hours-long commitment that prevents watching anything else, not really their fault.
But still. Top-25 Indiana! It’s possible and it’d be something!
