The former Hoosiers head coach is back in Bloomington with ESPN’s College Gameday.
Indiana football fans have wanted ESPN’s College Gameday to come through Bloomington for years. Previous Crimson Quarry staffs even embarked on an online campaign to get the show in town.
That dream will be realized on Saturday. Obviously every fanbase wants Gameday in town for the show, attention and love of the sport it brings with it. But Indiana has wanted the show for a while now for a specific reason: bringing coach Lee Corse home.
Before he was ESPN’s iconic headgear donning college football pundit, Corso coached the Indiana’s football program from 1973-1982. The peak of the Corso era in Bloomington came toward the end of his tenure, when he led the Hoosiers to back-to-back winning seasons in 1979 and 1980, winning the 1979 Holiday Bowl over previously undefeated BYU.
Multiple members of that 1979 team will be in Bloomington this weekend to be honored with Corso in town. The city plans on declaring Saturday, October 26, to be “Coach Lee Corso Day” in Bloomington with the mayor appearing on the College Gameday broadcast to honor Corso, per the Indiana Daily Student.
