More accolades for these Hoosiers.
Indiana football had three players named to various All-American lists this postseason, with Mikail Kamara being recognized by the AP while Aiden Fisher and D’Angelo Ponds earned Football Writers Association of America honors.
Kamara was named to the AP All-American Third team, but the FWAA had Fisher as a First Team Selection and Ponds as a Second Team selection.
While there’s an argument that these three players – and some of their teammates – deserved more recognition, it’s worth pointing out what an accomplishment this is.
Kamara, Fisher, and Ponds were all teammates under Curt Cignetti at James Madison last year, so these awards prove that players and coaches alike can make the leap from smaller schools to Power 4 teams and still succeed at a high level.
This is something to keep in mind as Indiana adds transfers from the likes of Northern Illinois, University of Alabama Birmingham, North Texas, Western Kentucky, and Texas State. Not every player will be an All-American, but these types of players can absolutely have an impact.
At the end of the day, if Cignetti believes a player is good enough for Indiana, they probably are. They might just end up being All-Americans too.
