Randle El, who is originally from Riverdale, Illinois, starred at quarterback in Bloomington as a dual threat and one of the most overall dangerous players in the country. He broke the then-freshman total offense record in his first career game with 467 yards against Western Michigan.
He was the first player in the history of NCAA Division-I football to pass for 40 career touchdowns and rush for 40 career touchdowns.
Randle El converted to wide receiver at the NFL level and played multiple seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders. He threw a touchdown pass in Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XL win.
He has risen up the NFL’s coaching ranks since 2019, starting as an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the Detroit Lions as wide receivers coach in 2021. He now follows Johnson, the former Lions offensive coordinator, to Detroit.
