Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell
In case you’ve missed it, Indiana men’s basketball has assembled a squad for the 2024 The Basketball Tournament, featuring some Hoosier greats like Yogi Ferrell, Troy Williams, Noah Vonleh, and Juwan Morgan.
Indiana’s team, Assembly Ball, played its first game tonight, beating “The Cru” – a Valparaiso alumni team, 89-79. With the win, they advance to the second round where they’ll face a team of Purdue alumni, Men of Mackey. That game will air on Sunday at 8 PM Eastern on FS1.
Assembly Ball was led by Yogi Ferrell, who registered game-highs with 27 points and six assists. He also hauled down two rebounds and held himself to one turnover in 85(!) minutes of play.
Assembly Ball also features six players with no Indiana affiliation, who figured heavily in tonight’s win. Julian Gamble (Miami) was Assembly Ball’s second leading scorer with 17 points.
Devonte Green added five points and a pair of apples in ten minutes off the bench, while Race Thompson registered a board and a block in his eight minutes of action tonight.
Look for Miller Kopp to feature more heavily in Indiana’s next game, as he’s projected to join following the conclusion of his Summer League season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He’ll give Assembly Ball even more range from 3-point range on the heels of a solid 35.3% showing on 34 attempts tonight.
