The redshirt freshman has been out since January with a lower body injury.
Indiana redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton has entered the transfer portal, according to reporting from Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star:
Jakai Newton is in the portal. That makes four current Hoosiers in now. #iubb

Newton missed the entirety of his true freshman season in 2023-24 due to injury and was shut down in January of this season with a lower body injury. Prior to the latter injury, Newton appeared in a handful of games with the staff attempting to ease him back into playing after a lengthy hiatus.
Having originally committed to Indiana in 2021 as a 4-star combo guard in the class of 2023, Newton was an intriguing prospect due to his combination of size, strength and athleticism in the backcourt. Injury ended up plaguing the end of his high school career and beginning of his time at the college level.
He’s the fourth member of the current team’s roster to enter the portal after Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau and Mackenzie Mgbako.
