More rough injury luck.
Indiana athletics announced that redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton will be out indefinitely as he recovers from knee surgery. This is unrelated to his prior knee surgeries, per the release.
Newton is expected to make a full recovery and to be available again this season, but it’s hard not to feel for a kid who has already had so many injury issues to this point in his career.
Newton is also not the first Indiana guard to suffer a knee injury this season. Sophomore guard Gabe Cupps also underwent some kind of knee procedure last week and is now expected to red shirt this season.
Neither of these players were necessarily expected to be huge contributors this season, but they gave Indiana a lot of depth and their potential – being a bit unknown – made the ceiling for this team feel higher.
