Jackson’s entry into the portal follows Indiana’s loss to Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff. He was active during that game and ready in the event that he was needed on the field.
He joined the program during the 2023 offseason as a transfer from Tennessee. A former in-state prospect out of Center Grove High School in Greenwood and brother of Hoosier basketball legend Trayce Jackson-Davis, his arrival received a good amount of fanfare. He spent most of the following ill-fated season battling for the starting job with Brendan Sorsby.
Jackson entered the 2024 season as the second string quarterback after the arrival of Kurtis Rourke. He saw limited time in the first few weeks and started the second half against Nebraska and the following game against Washington.
The Washington game meant a bit more to the Jackson family. Tayven’s father, Ray Jackson, is a noted former Washington State player. With College Gameday in town, the younger Jackson defeated his father’s rival as the Hoosiers’ starting quarterback.
With Indiana openly seeking a new quarterback in the portal, Jackson’s entry likely signals the end of his time with the program.
