Shackell, who won Olympic gold
Indiana swimming and diving has long been a destination for homegrown talent in the Hoosier State. The program added another name to the list on Sunday night with the commitment of Carmel High School’s Alex Shackell.

Shackell, an Olympic medalist, was previously committed to Cal before decommitting and opting for a gap year with Carmel Swim Club. Now Shackell will spend her college years as a Hoosier.
As a member of Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Shackell won Silver in the 4×200 meter medley and gold in the 4×100 meter medley.
Shackell is the No. 1 recruit in the women’s class of 2025 and played a major role in contributing to Carmel’s ongoing dynasty of swimming and diving dominance in the state.
It runs in the family for Shackell. Her father, Nick Shackell, was a member of Auburn’s 1997 NCAA Championship team and an All-American. Her brother Aaron Shackell was a fellow member of Team USA. Her twin brother, Andrew Shackell, is committed to swim at Texas and appeared at the 2024 Olympic Trials.
