The Hoosiers took down the Scarlet Knights in Assembly Hall.
Indiana women’s basketball took down Rutgers in a dominant 81-60 showing on Thursday in Assembly Hall.
With three straight wins to its name, Indiana is looking to build some momentum heading into the home stretch of the season. There’s no better time for a team to be playing its best basketball, and the Hoosiers are looking pretty good as of late.
Here’s three takeaways:
Dominant defense
Indiana didn’t just hold Rutgers to 60 points in Assembly Hall, the Hoosiers kept the Scarlet Knights at arm’s length.
Destiny Adams and Kiyomi McMiller were the only two issues on that end of the court for the Hoosiers with 24 and 14 points each. None of the rest of the Scarlet Knights scored in the double figures and they didn’t really come all that close either.
The Hoosiers held the Knights to shooting a paltry 38.6% from the field and just 15.4% from 3 on 13 attempts. The only way Rutgers had a hope to stay in this one was from deep and Indiana didn’t even let the Knights get enough shots up to try.
Rutgers shot just three attempts from long range in the fourth quarter. Dominant.
A 3-point shooting barrage
Meanwhile, on the other end of the court, Indiana was more than happy to let it fly.
Shooting has been something of a comfort for this Hoosiers team, especially lately. Indiana has the perimeter play to bury teams from long range, but even then a 15-28 clip from the perimeter, good for 53.6%, is something else.
Indiana all but ended this game in the third quarter when the Hoosiers went an astounding 10-13 from deep, with three from Shay Ciezki alone. Those 36 points as a team kept the game out of reach for the entirety of the fourth quarter.
Feelin’ 22
Sydney Parrish led the way with 22 points on the game with a 4-7 mark from deep and just two free throws.
Speaking of two, that’s the number of shots she missed as well, going 8-11 from the field. Indiana needs that kind of performance from her this season to compete, so it’s worth keeping an eye on to see how well she maintains this.
