The Hoosiers are 5-0 and have won every game by multiple scores.
Indiana football,
- has started 5-0 for the first time since 1967
- has defeated two Big Ten opponents, one at home and one on the road
- has won each of its first five games by multiple scores
- has been receiving votes for weeks and is on the edge of the top-25
So… should the Hoosiers be ranked?
In the heart of this writer? Absolutely. It takes a lot to change the vibe of a program, especially one dealing with the lows of Indiana, both recent and all-encompassing. Curt Cignetti has spent months talking the talk and through five weeks is walking the walk.
That should reflect itself in the polls. But will it?
Indiana, second in receiving votes, was effectively at 27th in the country heading into the Maryland game. Above it is Washington State, whose game against Boise has yet to kick off as of writing.
As for the teams locked into the top-25? Here’s who was ranked and how their week went:
25: Boise State – (SEE ABOVE)
24: Texas A&M – W-Arkansas
23: Kansas State – W-Oklahoma State
22: BYU – W-Baylor
21: Illinois – at Penn State
18: Iowa State – at Houston
I think you get the picture. Also I’ll try to update this before the vote comes out! A few things have to break Indiana’s way and so far the teams ahead of it have been winning. I don’t doubt that voters will move them up but I think a few things need to happen for Indiana to feel good about being ranked.
It’d be the program’s first ranking since preseason 2021.
