Reneau exited Indiana’s game against Rutgers with what appeared to be a knee injury.
Indiana men’s basketball lost its leading scorer, Malik Reneau, in the opening minutes of Thursday night’s 84-74 win over Rutgers with what appeared to be a knee injury.
Reneau went to a floor following a collision at the rim and his hands went to his knee before team staff gathered around him. He was able to walk off under his own power but went straight to the Hoosiers’ locker room.
He emerged later with ice on his right knee. He did not require crutches and didn’t have a noticeable limp while walking, but was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Mike Woodson was asked about the injury postgame and shared the following:
“Well, right now, we just got to evaluate him tomorrow,” Woodson said. “He couldn’t come back in the game and you know he’s a big piece to the puzzle. Going into this game, he was our leading scorer, so we’ll evaluate him tomorrow through our medical staff and see where he is and if he can’t play, it’s next man up. We just got to continue to go whoever is in uniform.”
Reneau started at the five against Rutgers with Oumar Ballo coming off the bench. Should he miss time, Indiana would likely go back to starting Ballo with Luke Goode next to him at power forward.
