Johnson previously worked in Bloomington on Tom Crean’s Indiana staff.
Indiana men’s basketball has hired Georgetown assistant coach Kenny Johnson for the same role on Darian DeVries’ first staff, according to reporting from Zach Osterman and the Indianapolis Star:
Source tells IndyStar former IU assistant Kenny Johnson will join Darian DeVries’ first staff in Bloomington. Johnson is expected to be involved as soon as this weekend: https://t.co/QE0k6alDu8 #iubb

Johnson, as stated by Osterman, previously worked for the program under former head coach Tom Crean. Since leaving in 2014, Johnson has worked at Louisville, La Salle, as the head coach at National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland, under former Indiana coach Archie Miller at Rhode Island and then his role at Georgetown.
He brings a strong recruiting ability to DeVries’ staff with connections in the DMV, a hotbed of talent that Crean and other coaches have looked to recruit from with Johnson on staff, hence his role at Washington D.C.- based Georgetown.
With the transfer portal heating up, DeVries has secured another strong recruiter on his staff as he looks to build out his first roster in Bloomington for 2025-26.
