The team of King, Regan Smith, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske set a new world record for the event with a time of 3:49.63. Another record to King’s long and ever growing legacy. Their performance helped Team USA overtake Australia in gold medal count for swimming events.
In all likelihood, this will bring King’s career as an Olympian to a close. She’d announced before the games that this year’s Olympic trials, held in Indianapolis, would be her final go around. She’ll be going to Los Angeles in 2028 as a spectator. And a legend.
