Brady Quinn faced Michigan State in each of his four years at Notre Dame. He’s happy to see his alma mater reignite the storied feud.
On Thursday, the Fighting Irish announced a home-and-home series against the Spartans in 2026 and 2027. The two teams have played each other 79 times, but the last encounter occurred in 2017.
Quinn celebrated the scheduling news on social news.
“Love this!!
@MSU_Football
is always a battle,” Quinn wrote. “Hope to bring back more of these rivalries.”
Notre Dame and Michigan State split their meetings during Quinn’s time at South Bend from 2003 to 2006. But the two-time Heisman Trophy finalist may still have warm memories of the old rivalry.
In 2005, Quinn amassed a career-high 487 passing yards with five touchdowns and an interception in a 44-41 overtime loss. He again tossed five touchdowns the following year, this time in a 40-37 comeback win.
Down 37-21 after three quarters, Notre Dame scored three straight touchdowns to win the Megaphone Trophy rivalry. Quinn connected with future Chicago Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija for 113 yards and two scores.
After Quinn went to the NFL as a first-round pick, Notre Dame won five of the past nine meetings. The Fighting Irish last earned a 38-18 road victory over the Spartans seven years ago.
Notre Dame Stadium will host the 2026 meeting on Sept. 19, and they’ll go to Spartan Stadium for a rematch on Sept. 18, 2027.
