The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Ohio State Buckeyes are set to play for the CFP National Championship on Monday night. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Irish are currently 8.5 point underdogs to the Buckeyes with an over/under of 45.5.
Since August, the Irish have had to endure a large multitude of injuries. Here is a refresher of some of the names:
- OL Charles Jagusah
- OL Ashton Craig
- OL Rocco Spindler
- DE Jordan Botelho
- DE Boubacar Traore
- CB Benjamin Morrison
- DT Rylie Mills
- OL Anthonie Knapp
Those are just some of the names lost to the Irish this year. Notre Dame also had defensive tackle Jason Onye leave the team early in the season for personal reasons. It’s been such a long season that we saw Charles Jagusah suffer a season-ending injury as the starter at LT in August — only to return as the starter now that Anthonie Knapp’s season is over after starting 15 games straight.
Here are the depth charts for the game:
OFFENSE
It was kind of amazing in the Orange Bowl to see Charles Jagusah playing guard. Jagusah was the scheduled starter at LT in August but a torn pectoral muscle ended his regular season. Anthinie Knapp did a wonderful job at LT all year, but when he went down in the Orange Bowl there was a drop in play with Tosh Baker. So now we’re back to where we were — which is kind of amazing. Jeremiyah Love is back to 100% according to him, and everyone else is healthy going into the game.
DEFENSE
Getting Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa back to full speed is a big deal for the Irish as they will need every weapon they have to help keep this Ohio State offense in check. Notre Dame put Sean Sevilano back on the depth chart this week as well, which suggests (to me) that they will be looking for a deeper rotation along the line for this game. Howard Cross needs all the help he can get.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Why would anything so special need a change? Send up a prayer though — be honest about it.
