Trench players
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are preparing for their college football playoff quarterfinal matchup in the Sugar Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs. As we have seen too many times this season — the Irish have been hit with a few injuries to starters. With at least a baker’s dozen of those injuries coming throughout the year, we should be used to it by now — but it still stings.
The Irish released their depth charts for the Georgia game, and despite the injuries, it looks very much like the one against the Indiana Hoosiers.
OFFENSE
Jeremiyah Love was healthy enough to play in the first round even as he battled sickness to go along with his banged up leg — and that worked out pretty well. This week the injury focus in on guard Rocco Spindler who was listed as questionable for the game by Marcus Freeman. If Rocco is unable to go, it will be Sullivan Absher.
DEFENSE
The loss of Rylie Mills is a massive one for Notre Dame. It’s big enough that a lot of ND insiders who were likely leaning towards an Irish victory of Georgia have now given pause to the prediction. Notre Dame has used a lot of its depth along the defensive line this season, so experience won’t be a huge factor — but the size and strength of Mills was absolutely needed to go up against this big and powerful Georgia line.
SPECIAL TEAMS
The only thing you really need to know… Mitch Jeter is still kicking field goals.
