Drew Pyne has reportedly chosen his third school in as many years.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the quarterback is committing to Missouri. He spent last season at Arizona State after three years with Notre Dame.
Pyne, 23, has three seasons of NCAA eligibility remaining.
Following two seasons on the bench, Pyne played well for the Fighting Irish in place of an injured Tyler Buchner in 2022. He averaged 8.0 yards per pass attempt with 22 passing touchdowns and six picks.
Pyne transferred to Arizona State to play for first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham. He injured his hamstring in training camp before injuries to Jaden Rashada and Trenton Bourguet elevated him to the starting role in September
However, Pyne threw two picks in his Suns Devil debut, a 29-0 loss to Fresno State, before suffering another injury in the ensuing week’s loss to USC.
Pyne entered the transfer portal again on Dec. 1, but he later told Thamel he’d enroll back at Notre Dame for one more semester. He was 15 credits away from graduating.
“I’ve decided to return to Notre Dame to earn my degree and finish what I started,” Pyne told Thamel. “It means I will fulfill a lifelong dream, and be part of that community forever, which was always very important to me.”
Pyne joins a Missouri program that ended an 11-2 season with a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State. Starting quarterback Brady Cook will return for his fifth year, so Pyne will presumably compete for a backup role on the SEC squad.
