Duke quarterback Riley Leonard immediately became a hot commodity once he announced that he’s entering the transfer portal. That being said, an official decision regarding his future hasn’t been made yet.
During this Saturday’s edition of “College GameDay,” ESPN insider Pete Thamel provided an update on Leonard’s future.
Thamel revealed that Leonard is expected to join Notre Dame’s roster for the 2024 season.
“Riley Leonard is considered the top guy on the market,” Thamel said. “He visited Notre Dame from December 6-7. They’re the leader for him. That’s the expected thing to happen.”
This shouldn’t really surprise college football fans. Notre Dame has made Leonard its “top target” from the jump.
As for a potential timeline, Thamel said Leonard could commit to Notre Dame as early as next week.
In three seasons at Duke, Leonard had 4,450 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback also had 1,224 yards and 19 scores on the ground.
Notre Dame is looking to replace Sam Hartman for the 2024 season. We’ll see if Marcus Freeman can land another notable transfer from the ACC.
