Chris Tyree was one of several Notre Dame players to enter the NCAA transfer portal this week.
Tyree, a former four-star recruit, has already found a new program. The Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale alum announced Tuesday night that he will transfer back home and finish his career at the University of Virginia.
“Back Home. Let’s work!!!” Tyree tweeted.

Tyree spent his first three seasons at Notre Dame as a running back, rushing for 1,162 yards and eight touchdowns on 229 carries. He was also a factor as a receiver out of the backfield, which contributed to his shift to wide receiver for the 2023 season.
This fall, Tyree posted career-highs in receptions (26), receiving yards (484) and receiving touchdowns (three), leading Notre Dame in touchdown catches and finishing third in total receptions.
Tyree also returned a punt for a touchdown in a 58-7 win over Pittsburgh. As a redshirt freshman in 2021, he brought a kickoff back 96 yards to spearhead a 31-point fourth quarter flurry in a 41-13 victory over Wisconsin.
Tyree will be immediately eligible at UVA for the 2024 season.
