Notre Dame has named its starting quarterback for its season opener against Texas A&M.
Former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard will start for the Fighting Irish against the Aggies.
Leonard transferred to the Irish after three seasons with the Blue Devils. His best season with them came in 2022 when he threw for 2,794 yards and added 20 touchdowns.
He only played in seven games last season, finishing with 1,102 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. When healthy, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
The Irish will be looking for more good quarterback play this season after finishing the 2023 season with a 10-3 record. They won their 10th game in the Sun Bowl after winning nine games during the regular season.
They come into this season as the No. 7 team in the AP poll and a prime contender to make the College Football Playoff.
They’ll play the Aggies on August 31, ranked No. 20 in the country.
After that, the Irish play the Northern Illinois Huskies before taking on the Purdue Boilermakers the following week.
Kickoff for the Irish-Aggies game will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
