Each fall, Notre Dame football home games are marquee events for NBC Sports.
For the last two seasons, Jac Collinsworth served as the play-by-play announcer for Notre Dame home games on NBC. Earlier this year, it was reported that Collinsworth was being replaced.
NBC made it official Tuesday that Dan Hicks, who called Notre Dame games from 2011-16 and has been with the network since 1992, will handle play-by-play duties for the Fighting Irish this season.
Hicks, 62, is NBC’s top golf voice and has also broadcast NFL and NBA contests for the company. A University of Arizona graduate, he is married to longtime sports journalist Hannah Storm, a Notre Dame alum.
Collinsworth, 29, is the son of former NFL wide receiver and longtime NBC Sports NFL commentator Cris Collinsworth.
A 2017 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Collinsworth has been at NBC Sports since 2020 after a three-year stint at ESPN.
While with the network, he first served as a sideline reporter and studio host for Notre Dame games before moving into the booth to do play-by-play alongside Jason Garrett in 2022.
Garrett is scheduled to continue to work with Hicks this fall. NBC’s main college football broadcasting team of Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge called two Notre Dame home games in primetime in 2023, and based off previous reports, it’s possible they could do the same with the Irish’s Nov. 9 matchup against Florida State, set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Notre Dame will open its 2024 season against Texas A&M on Saturday, Aug. 31.
