A couple of weeks ago, Notre Dame suffered a shocking upset loss at home to Northern Illinois. A week later, one of the Fighting Irish’s players is transferring.
It’s been a rough start to the 2024 regular season for Marcus Freeman’s team, which entered the year with College Football Playoff hopes. Thanks to the 12-team expansion, Notre Dame is still very much alive for the postseason. But the Fighting Irish will have to play much better moving forward. Notre Dame is 3-1 on the season and ranked No. 16 in the country, following a blowout win over Miami (Ohio).
But Notre Dame’s roster depth took a hit on Monday.
Jaden Mickey, a former four-star recruit out of California in the 2022 class, is leaving the Notre Dame football program.
“Marcus Freeman announces that Jaden Mickey will red shirt the rest of this season with plans to transfer out of Notre Dame after the season. Mickey had been the third corner in the defensive rotation,” Pete Sampson reported on Monday.
Mickey announced the news himself later on Monday morning.
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

Mickey was the No. 22 overall cornerback recruit in the country in 2022, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
The former four-star recruit should have some big suitors on the transfer market.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, will look to improve to 4-1 on the year with a win over No. 15 Louisville on Saturday.
