Did not see that one coming
According to ESPN’s Sham Charnia, Olivia Miles will NOT enter the WNBA Draft, but instead use her final year of eligibility somewhere other than Notre Dame via the transfer portal.
Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles – the projected No. 2 pick in the WNBA draft this month – will forgo the draft and enter NCAA’s transfer portal, sources tell ESPN. Miles was considered to be a lock for the #2 pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. She was a 2 time 2nd team All-American while with the Fighting Irish among many other honors from the ACC.
Miles has dealt with a couple of difficult injuries while at Notre Dame, but during her four years with the Irish, she averaged 14.2 ppg, 6 rpg, and 6.5 apg.
She has played an integral role in returning the Irish to being a formidable team in women’s college basketball. The Irish, however, couldn’t make it past the Sweet 16 these past two seasons — and next year might be more of a rebuilding year.
While no school has surfaced (as of publishing) as a possible destination, the NIL bag will likely be incredibly significant. Make no mistake about it… this is unprecedented. It’s also a big blow to the public image of Notre Dame women’s basketball, and the head coach Niele Ivey.
