Irish netminder Owen Say recorded 33 saves.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finished their series against the University of Wisconsin Badgers Saturday with a 2-1 loss. This followed Notre Dame’s 3-2 OT Friday victory against the Badgers in which the Irish kicked off conference play.
Game Summary (Wisconsin 2-Notre Dame 1)
First Period
The Badgers went after the Irish net from the puck drop and recorded three shots in the first 30 seconds of the game. Early scoring opportunities soon came for the Irish in the form of shots from in front of the goal from Brennan Ali and Blake Biondi less than two minutes in, but the Badgers responded right away and maintained control on offense. Following the period’s halfway point, the two teams notched a penalty each, but both squads failed to capitalize on the power play. By the end of the first, the Badgers more than doubled Notre Dame’s 7 shots with 16 of their own, but the scoreboard showed 0-0 heading into the second.
Second Period
After five and a half minutes of back and forth, Owen Lindmark put the Badgers on the board. Notre Dame’s Ryan Helliwell found the back of the net to tie the game about seven minutes later. Following a penalty on Ali for goaltender interference, Wisconsin’s Simon Tassy scored to reclaim the lead and bring it to 2-1. This time around, the Badgers narrowly outshot the Irish 11-10.
Helliwell’s first of the season got us on the board. Looking for an answer in the third as we’re down 2-1.

Third Period
The Irish nearly tied things back up when a shot from Danny Nelson went wide, but after an interference penalty on Ali, the Badgers kept control from there. With seconds left, the Irish pulled goaltender Owen Say from the net, but it was not enough to catch up to the Badgers.
