Getting the stiff arm
After an incredibly chaotic college football Saturday last week, we saw a LOT of chalk this week across the country as Notre Dame was back in play from the bye week. At least it wasn’t boring though. Despite most of the final marks in the win/loss columns ended up being the way they were supposed to go, the games were still a lot of fun to watch and follow all day and night.
So how did the Irish opponents do this week?
#14 Texas A&M Aggies — BYE (5-1) —
Northern Illinois — WON vs Bowling Green Falcons (4-2) —
Purdue Boilermakers — LOST vs Illinois Fighting Illini (1-5) —
Miami Redhawks — WON vs Eastern Michigan Eagles (2-4) —
Louisville Cardinals — WON vs Virginia Cavaliers (4-2) —
Stanford Cardinal — LOST vs Notre Dame (2-4) —
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets — WON vs North Carolina Tar Heels (5-2) —
Navy Midshipmen — BYE (5-0) —
Florida State Seminoles — BYE (1-5) —
Virginia Cavaliers — LOST vs Louisville Cardinals (4-2) —
Army Black Knights — WON vs UAB (6-0) —
USC Trojans — LOST vs Penn State Nittany Lions (3-3) —
And now we have finally arrived at the moment where there are too many undefeated and one-loss teams. Because of this cluster of fun, we shouldn’t be surprised at the position the Irish find themselves in this week. After a 49-7 win, Notre Dame dropped a spot in the AP Top 25 Poll to #12. Even if the Irish would have won 100-0, they were still going to take this dip because of how the games finished on Saturday.
