Notre Dame got a major transfer commitment on Wednesday.
Northwestern defensive back Rod Heard II has officially committed to Marcus Freeman and his staff. Notre Dame was able to beat out both Michigan and Michigan State for his services, per Tom Loy of 247Sports.

Heard will finish his collegiate career in South Bend. He only has one year of eligibility remaining after spending five seasons at Northwestern.
He finished the 2023 season with 85 total tackles (54 solo), four passes defended, two forced fumbles, a sack, and an interception. It was the best season of his career to date.
That came after he finished the 2022 season with 67 total tackles (47 solo), two passes defended, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.
Overall, he has compiled 194 total tackles, eight passes defended, five forced fumbles, two sacks, and two interceptions.
