Notre Dame will officially be a part of the much-anticipated EA Sports College Football 25 game to be released this summer.
Three years ago, Notre Dame announced that it would not participate in the game unless rules had been finalized allowing athletes to benefit from name, image and likeness (NIL).
Of course, with NIL now legalized and a key component of EA Sports’ revival of the iconic video game franchise, the Fighting Irish confirmed Tuesday they are involved in the project.
“After nearly two years of work with EA Sports, we’re proud to announce that our fans around the world will be able to play as the Fighting Irish in the upcoming College Football franchise,” Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick wrote.
“The work that EA Sports is doing to provide over 11,000 college student-athletes opportunities to benefit directly from their name, image and likeness is a first-of-its-kind undertaking and we’re proud to have been involved in this process.”
EA Sports dropped a trailer for College Football 25 last week, and a full reveal of the game is expected in May.
As for a release date, nothing specific has been announced, but OutKick’s David Hookstead spoke with a PlayStation rep Tuesday who reportedly confirmed the game will be out sometime in July, which is consistent with when previous versions of the franchise were released.
This will be EA Sports’ first college football video game in 11 years.
