Okay
On Monday, Notre Dame football held its normal press conference on Monday and Marcus Freeman was adamant that Riley Leonard wasn’t just their starting quarterback — but at no time did he think about putting Steve Angeli into the game after Leonard hurt his non-throwing shoulder.
That non-throwing shoulder received an MRI, and Leonard indeed injured himself against NIU.
Blue & Gold and On3’s Pete Nakos have confirmed with sources that Leonard injured his left labrum taking a hit against the Huskies. The Fighting Irish signal-caller underwent an MRI on his non-throwing shoulder over the weekend, which revealed the ailment. He is still expected to play Saturday at Purdue in spite of the prognosis.
A lot of Irish fans will naturally look at this as a perfect moment to make a change at quarterback, but until we hear otherwise — Leonard is the man for Saturday against the Purdue Boilermakers. On the podcast, we talked about the size of leash that should be on Leonard, and maybe this news makes that leash just a little bit smaller.
