Taking over
The Notre Dame football roster is full of great players — known and unknown. No matter the place on the depth chart or the recruiting ranking a player had attached to him before his arrival at Notre Dame — there are probably some things I really like about him. So over the course of the next few months, let’s take a positive approach to running down the roster.
Almost daily (just being honest) I’ll list three things I like about a single player on the roster, and as an additional bonus, I’ll post some extra pics over on the OFD Instagram account (be sure to follow RIGHT HERE).

#4 Jaiden Ausberry — Linebacker
The 6’2” 216 pound junior from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was a major recruiting win for Notre Dame as they beat out Auburn and LSU. Jaiden took a redshirt his freshman season, but saw some action along the way. It became quite clear the following spring that he was on a starting path in 2024 — and he didn’t disappoint.
1. He is from Louisiana.
I have a special place in my heart for players from regions in which the Irish don’t normally win the recruiting battles they get into during the cycle. It’s especially best when the player excels on the field (and early). Louisiana is a land of plenty when it comes to football players, but the Irish have failed to make consistent inroads in the Pelican State. While the Irish will likely never fully loosen the grip the LSU Tigers and the rest of the SEC have on the top players in the state, stories like Jaiden Ausberry definitely gives them a better chance.
2. He has given steady production.
Ausberry became a starter at linebacker as a sophomore, and all he did was finish with the 5th most tackles on the team and was tied for second on the team in TFL’s. All of this on a defense that ranked in the top 5 nationally during the regular season.
The unsung heroes of Notre Dame’s defense is certainly the linebacker corps

3. The best is yet to come.
Ausberry’s TFL count and the fact he found himself around a number of loose balls means he has the stuff to be a major disruptor on the field in 2025. With the departure of Jack Kiser to the NFL, Ausberry will likely have more put on his plate this season, but from what we saw for most of the year — he should answer the challenge and be one of the best defenders on the field.
