Tyler Buchner has been the backup to Jalen Milroe at Alabama this season. But we’ve already seen one backup enter the transfer portal before the College Football Playoff. Will Buchner be the next?
Taking to X on Wednesday, Buchner confirmed that he intends to return to Notre Dame to play lacrosse and graduate this coming May. However, he plans to stay with Alabama through the College Football Playoff.
“I am excited to return to ND to play lacrosse and graduate in May. Prior to that, I’ll be continuing my initial commitment to Alabama Football through the playoff and finishing what I started. I can’t thank everyone enough for their continued support,” Buchner said.
Buchner has appeared in only two games this season. He is 8 of 19 for 61 yards through the air and has 20 yards on the ground.

Tyler Buchner was the starting quarterback for Notre Dame last season but decided to leave after the 2022 season. He joined Alabama where he was initially the projected starter before Milroe took over.
Will Buchner see the field again for Alabama before he returns to South Bend?
