Last week, Notre Dame honored Sam Hartman as he walked off the field for his final home game of the 2023 season. Ironically, it was against his former team, Wake Forest.
During a media session this week, Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson offered his thoughts on Notre Dame’s tribute to Hartman.
Clawson questioned Notre Dame’s love for Hartman because the program apparently “rented” his former quarterback for one season.
“Here’s a guy that we recruited, and we developed. You know, they’re putting a video on him saying, ‘We will always love you.’ Like, you only dated him for a couple of months. It can’t be love,” Clawson said. “We’re the ones that love him. We had five years with him. You rented him for a season. They bought him and rented him for a year, and now they love him? When that video played, it’s just like, Holy cow, this is where college football is.”

Shots fired.
Clawson finished his rant by saying he spoke to Hartman before and after last Saturday’s game. He doesn’t blame the talented signal-caller for transferring to Notre Dame.
Hartman played for Wake Forest from 2018-2022, throwing for 12,967 yards and 110 touchdowns. In 11 games at Notre Dame, he has 2,549 yards and 22 touchdowns.
