A couple of true freshmen for today’s version of the countdown.
Player: Shamar Rigby
Class: Freshman
Position: Wide Receiver
2024 Role: It seems as if Shamar Rigby will have a legitimate shot at playing during his true freshman season in West Lafayette. Injuries have started to pile up with the group of returning wide receivers, but even before that, Shamar Rigby was turning heads and taking reps from returning players to the Purdue Football Team.
At 6-3, 190 pounds, Rigby has the ideal size to play on the outside for the Air Raid Offense in year two under Graham Harrell. Last season, Purdue lacked talent on the perimeter. Still, with the addition of Rigby, CJ Smith (who is battling injury), and the return of Jahamal Edrine, Purdue should feel much more comfortable with going into their first game in just over 2 weeks at that position.
Expect to see Rigby early in often throughout the season, as he has been a surprise this summer and into August Training Camp.
Player: Hudauri Hines
Class: Freshman
Position: Defensive Back
2024 Role: Hudauri Hines was one of the earliest commits to the 2024 class, hailing from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. Hines has the prototypical mold that Coach Ryan Walters is looking for in his secondary, long, lanky, and ultra-athletic.
While Hines may not find a lot of playing time in the secondary this year with the addition of some talented transfers, there could be potential to see him in a role for the special teams’ units or even a redshirt year, where he could gain an additional year of collegiate eligibility.
