We’ve got two players today.
We are now just 17 days away from the kickoff of the 2024 Purdue football season. With two players on the countdown today let’s take them in alphabetical order shall we?
Player: Christian Gelov
Position: QB
Hometown: Noblesville, IN
Previous School: TCU
Year: Senior
Height: 6’0
Weight: 178 lbs
2024 Outlook: Depth QB
Gelov spent his first year in college football at TCU before becoming a Boilermaker. He hasn’t seen the field over the past three seasons but as anyway who watches or is around college football, the guys who don’t see the field have a crucial role to play in practice each and every day. Gelov is no different. He’s also a Purdue legacy. His dad played football for Purdue from 1982-1986. He’s still going to wind up a Purdue graduate and is taking his studies seriously as noted by his 2023 Academic All-Big Ten selection.
While it seems unlikely that Gelov will see the field this year, barring an extreme blowout or some serious injury trouble (which to be fair we’ve seen that before at Purdue) we are still happy to have him.
Player: Shitta Sillah
Position: Rush End
Hometown: Somerset, NJ
Previous School: Boston College
Year: Senior
Height: 6’4
Weight: 251 lbs
2024 Outlook: Backup Rush End
Shitta Sillah came over to Purdue in the offseason after spending five seasons at Boston College. He played in 39 games but had his 2022 season cut short after just one game when he suffered a season ending knee injury during the first game of the season. He came back in 2023 and played in 8 games with a combined 14 tackles including three tackles for loss and two sacks.
During his career he’s grabbed one interception which helped the Eagles take down Louisville. Sillah is expected to come in and contend with minutes against Will Heldt at the rush end position. Seems likely that Sillah will get plenty of reps as you want your guys to be fresh at this position. We will see if that makes both Heldt and Sillah more efficient and how Walters decides to mix the snaps.
