We look at the defensive backfield again today.
Player: Anthony Brown
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Height: 6’0
Weight: 195 lbs
2024 Outlook: Backup DB – Possible special teams role
Anthony Brown started his collegiate football career at Arkansas where he was on the team for one season before transferring to our beloved Boilermakers. In his first season with the team last year he appeared in all 12 games. He had three tackles on the year, two coming against IU, and forced a fumble against Nebraska. It was a promising start to a promising young career for a very talented football player.
If there’s one thing we know about Purdue head coach Ryan Walters though it’s that he’s good at identifying defensive backfield talent. The group coming in for Purdue should push the young guys like Brown to really put in the work. Nyland Green and Markevious Brown are expected to be the starting cornerback duo, but will be pushed by guys like Derrick Rogers and the incoming five star freshman Tarrion Grant. Where does Brown fit into this? Well, he found his way onto the field for all 12 games last year so Walters and company clearly see something in him. The next step will be showing them that faith can be rewarded with consistent solid play.
