The freshman DB out of Florida was a top 55 recruit at his position in 2024
We are officially less than thirty away from the Purdue Boilermakers taking the field and that leads us to Earl Kulp. The true freshman defensive back out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida had a bevy of big offers but chose the Boilers over Michigan, Miami, SMU, Tennessee, Penn State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Missouri, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Illinois (among many others). Needless to say, Kulp was highly sought after as a high school defensive back from a state that produces talented players in the defensive backfield every season.
Kulp won four state championships in his high school career playing cornerback and free safety and it’s likely he fits into that Cam Allen role from last year as a combo safety/nickel back. Kulp joins a highly recruited set of defensive backs that has seen a major talent upgrade with Head Coach Ryan Walters, cornerbacks coach Sam Carter, and safeties coach Grant O’Brien bringing in players like Markevious Brown (Ole Miss), Nyland Green (Georgia), Derrick Rogers Jr., Salim Turner-Muhammed (Stanford), Anthony Brown (Arkansas), Koy Beasley, and Dillon Thieneman. Kulp will likely redshirt but given the struggles and injuries last season, a true freshman seeing playing time isn’t out of the question with Rogers getting meaningful snaps last season against big time competition.
