Purdue is overwhelmed by an average Wisconsin team to another embarrassing loss
Purdue’s trip to Madison turned into another long day as the Boilers were dominated by the Badgers, 52-6 . Without their starting quarterback, running back, and losing their top two receivers during the game, Wisconsin dominated the Boilermaker defense to the tune of 589 yards. Meanwhile, Purdue’s offense looked much like it had under new offensive coordinator Jason Simmons in only getting 216 yards.
Let’s get some quick reactions from our Hammer and Rails staff:
Jed:
Different week, same result. The defensive result is utterly unacceptable against a very mediocre offensive team that didn’t have their best players. For a head coach that was touted as a defensive coach, the ease at which this Wisconsin team scored is unacceptable. Purdue is now giving up an average of 46 points against division one opponents. That places them squarely as one of the worst defenses in the country.
A week after being on Graham Harrell watch, it appears now we are on Ryan Walters watch the rest of the season. This is the type of effort and result that got Darrell Hazell fired. This result is unacceptable from a program two years removed from a B1G Title appearance. The ball is squarely in Mike Bobinski’s court.
Ledman:
Remember those lyrics from The Talking Heads song Once In a Lifetime, that go “And you may ask yourself, “Well, how did I get here?”” That’s how I feel about Purdue football. It wasn’t that long ago that Purdue was playing in the Big Ten title game. Now, we are celebrating the fact that in the fifth game of the season Purdue was finally able to get a turnover. I can’t believe that everything that is happening now is all because of Ryan Walters. That just doesn’t track. Purdue has problems with NIL that can drag a program down quickly. I feel like that might be the major issue right now. To be clear, Walters isn’t helping but there are bigger problems that need to be addressed.

New coaches, same pathetic result. I think we are meeting the end of the Ryan Walters era already.
