By The Numbers: Purdue Uses Second Half Surge to Win on the Road

Purdue moves to 2-1 in conference play.

61

The total number of points that Purdue’s Big Three scored on the road at the Barn last night. Fletcher Loyer led the way with 24 points, followed by Smith’s 20 and TKR’s 17. The bulk of Braden’s damage was done in the 2nd half after he struggled to shoot the ball in the first half, like TKR.

Purdue would score 50 in the second half, fixing their first-half offensive issues. Loyer kept Purdue in the game during the first half while the other two struggled.

36

The total number of Points, Rebounds, and Assists for PRAden Smith, who as you all know, is arguably one of the best point guards in the country. He scored 20 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and added 10 assists.

What is the most impressive line from his box score? Zero turnovers, all while playing 39 of the 40 minutes of the game.

11

The number of points that Caleb Furst scored in his first start of the season. It was also only the second time in his career that he logged more than 30 minutes in a game, the other time was during his freshman season.

Could this be a springboard for a resurgence for the senior?

2

The number of new starters that Coach Painter inserted to try and revitalize the offense. CJ Cox and Caleb Furst came off the bench to mix it up for Purdue. While Cox did not score any points, there were a few times when he initiated the offense while Braden Smith started off the ball, a new look for this season.

Furst, as mentioned before, had a great game. Will Coach Painter stick with this lineup? I say yes, as it allowed Colvin and Heide to be more of 3rd options with the second group instead of fourth and fifth options with the starters.

1

The number of road wins so far this season in true away games. If Purdue wants to win another Big Ten Title they will need to continue this trend and stack wins on the road against the lesser teams of the Big Ten.
