Drew Brees is the spokesman for the Dos Equis “Go For Dos” sweepstakes in 2024 and a fellow Boilermaker quarterback is looking to go for Dos on the field in 2024.
Drew Brees is a spokesman for the Dos Equis “Go for Dos” ad campaign, encouraging college football teams to go for two point conversions, or “dos” in the 2024 season. When they reached out to Hammer and Rails to see if we had a Purdue slant on “going for Dos”, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to be adjacent to THE Purdue Drew, if for no other reason than to up my 6 degrees of Drew Brees separation game.
First, I suppose I should start with the campaign details:
“In conjunction with the start of the college football season, Dos Equis announced that when teams “Go for Dos” this year, fans will get Dos. It’s giving away up to a MILLION FREE BEERS this season if teams “Go for Dos” more often this season than last. That means if FBS teams go for two more than last season’s 392 times, Dos Equis will give out 500,000 free beers at season’s end. It also means that each week teams eclipse last year’s pace of 28 attempts, Dos will unlock 50,000 free beers.
Last weekend, major college football teams attempted 41 two-point conversions, which means fans can claim 50,000 free beers courtesy of Dos Equis.“

Now For the Fun Part
Hudson Card Goes For Dos!
Note: Hudson Card is in no way affiliated with this promotion. I’m simply comparing one legendary Purdue quarterback to a future legendary Purdue quarterback (fingers crossed).
While Drew Brees is spearheading the “Go For Dos” campaign from the stands, current Boilermaker quarterback Hudson Card is going for two on the field in 2024.
- Hudson is in his second season as Purdue’s starting quarterback. Purdue is also the second team he’s started for, after picking up 5 starts for the Texas Longhorns in his 3 seasons.
- In this millennium, only two Purdue quarterbacks have thrown for 275+ yards and run for 85+ yards in a game. Drew Brees put up 409 passing yards and 88 rushing yards vs Minnesota in 2000 and Card put up 275 and 85 last season against Indiana.
- Card and Brees both have 80+ yard touchdown completions on their resume. Brees has an NCAA tying 99 yard touchdown to my man Vinny Sutherland,
- Two also happens to be the number of starting quarterbacks Purdue has imported from Austin, Texas. Drew Brees played his high school ball at Westlake and Card slung the ball around the field for Lake Travis.
- Speaking of Texas quarterbacks, Purdue has “dos” Texas gunslingers on the roster this season, with freshman Marcos Davila out of Midland Legacy joining Card in the quarterback room.
- In fact, Purdue’s quarterback room has “dos” connections to Drew Brees. Card and Brees both played quarterback in Austin, and Brees and offensive coordinator Graham Harrell (a fellow Texan) both have games with over 70 passing attempts on their resume, putting both in the top 25 in all-time NCAA single game attempts.
- Last, but certainly not least, with a win over the Fighting Irish on Saturday, Card and Brees will have a combined “Dos” wins over Notre Dame.
Will Purdue Help Unlock Free Dos Equis on Saturday?
I obviously don’t know, because if I did, I would be living in Vegas. I’m still working on honing my ability to see into the future, but looking back to last season, the Boilermakers did complete two successful, two point conversions.
On a personal note, one of my favorite college football memories involves my alma mater, the Clemson Tigers, stopping a certain team from South Bend on a two-point conversion with seconds remaining on the clock to secure a 1-point win in the middle of the remnants of a hurricane.
It’s not out of the realm of possibility that at the end of the day tomorrow, two of my favorite college football college football memories will revolve around knocking off The Fighting Irish with 2-point conversion.
I’ll talk to y’all after the game tomorrow. As always, BOILER UP and be safe out there tomorrow, and if you get the opportunity to encourage Coach Walters to “go for Dos” tomorrow from the stands, put a little extra on it for me. I can’t make it to the game, but I’m always down for free beer.
As always, BOILER UP! and be safe out there tomorrow.
