So far, Purdue star center Zach Edey has come to play in the national championship game against UConn.
Through the first 13 minutes of action tonight, the 7-foot-4 Edey has bagged 14 of Purdue’s 23 points while adding three rebounds and three blocked shots.
Thus far, the presumed National Player of the Year has outplayed Donovan Clingan, his 7-foot-2 counterpart from UConn. There’s a lot of game left, but Edey has brought his “A” game at the outset, earning widespread praise on social media.
“Edey is on his Pacific Rim s–t tonight I see,” said writer Shea Serrano.
“Zach Edey is cooking tonight! #NationalChampionship,” said another commenter.
“We’re seeing the greatness of Edey tonight. Clingan is a sensational player, but he’s a non-factor while Edey is dominating and already has 14. UConn has gotta start trapping him in the post,” added Wildcat Report’s Louie Vaccher.
“Edey’s getting 40 tonight, but UConn has answers for everybody else. This is really going to be something!” chimed in Pacers writer Dustin Dopirak.
That last tweet makes an interesting point. Purdue’s supporting cast has not done much so far, and if that trend continues, the Boilermakers won’t be able to win, no matter how dominant Edey plays.
UConn currently leads by five points late in the first half over on TBS.
