A broken fibula will sideline Ivey for an unknown amount of time after a career defining start to the 2024-2025 season.
The Detroit Pistons announced on Thursday that Jaden Ivey will miss the remainder of the NBA season due to a broken fibula he suffered in their game on New Years Day. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of their matchup with the Orlando Magic while fighting for a loose ball and Cole Anthony made contact with Ivey’s legs. It was evident quickly that Ivey was seriously injured and he was eventually carted off the floor and received surgery this morning. According to Piston’s beat writer Omari Sankofa II, Ivey will be reevaluated in four weeks and the break was a clean one.
Pistons announce Jaden Ivey underwent surgery this morning to repair a broken fibula in his left leg. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
Doesn’t guarantee he’ll return in a month, but that’s a very encouraging timeline considering how the injury first appeared.

Ivey had been having his best season in the NBA averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists per game while shooting 40.1% from behind the arc and 49.0% from inside. This marks another season in which the Pistons will have gone most of their games without Ivey and star point guard Cade Cunningham playing together, a pairing that was thought to be one of the most explosive young tandems in the NBA.
It is unknown if Ivey will return this season or not following his successful surgery and rehabilitation as that can take between 6 to 12 weeks before regaining full function.
